A little something about us…

Daly&Wakeling are a new company, but with years of experience. The workshop is run by Lachlan Daly, who carries out the practical side of the business. Lachlan previously worked for a company in Tunbridge Wells where he repaired, restored customer instruments and set up instruments to sell. He then furthered his knowledge by taking a 3 year in depth course at Merton college in Surrey.

Jenna Wakeling is the artist and designer. If you’re after a custom inlay for your instrument, she’ll help draw up a design that you’re happy with. She also helps run the administration part of Daly&Wakeling.

“The first instrument I learn’t to play was the Piano when I was 7, I took that up to grade 5. I then decided I would learn the Guitar, then I started singing, then Bass guitar, Trombone and soon I was completely hooked by music! After years of learning and practising, I began to write my own material. Once I felt it was good enough, I put together my own band. We’ve had so many opportunities playing on some amazing stages and recording with some amazing musicians and producers. In 2019 we headlined the Local and live, Calverley Park festival in Tunbridge Wells. Currently, I’ve just started learning the Violin!

Being a musician has given me the knowledge and experience to understand how to set an instrument up to the player, after all, everyone has a different playing style depending on what they’re doing. An example might be that a beginner Violin player might like their strings nice and close to the fingerboard to make it easier to play. A professional musician, especially in the classical world or if they’re using gut strings, might like the complete opposite. There are so many different options, and I’m quite happy to sit and work with each player to adjust it to their needs, if they so choose.”
